Richard W. Richardson

CLINTON, ME -- Richard W. Richardson, 64, of Clinton passed away at home with his wife by his side on Monday, June 21, 2010, after a three-year battle with a rare kidney cancer.
​
He was born in Waterville on Jan. 22, 1946, the son of Norman L. and Elizabeth (Ames) Richardson Sr. He attended and graduated from Hinckley Goodwill School in 1964. He was also a graduate of the University of Maine at Orono in 1968. He attended Portland Law School for two years.
​
Richard married the former Judith Jacobs on Aug. 23, 1969, at the Methodist Church in Winthrop. In his early years, he was employed by Hartland Tannery and Kennebec Rental as well as several area farms. He later was employed by Keyes Fiber Paper Co. for 25 years, retiring in 2003. He and his wife were also self employed for 30 years at Richardson's Strawberry Farm where many family members helped out.

He was a member of United Bikers of Maine and American Motorcycle Association and attended many motorcycle rallies. He was very involved in the town of Clinton's politics and served on the Planning Board for two terms.
Richard was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and trapping. He went fishing often with his family and especially liked Spencer Lake. He loved family gatherings. He was an avid reader. He also loved his motorcycle and traveled extensively out west many times and in Canada with Prince Edward Island as a favorite place to visit. In 2000 he and his wife converted his motorcycle to a Trike.

Richard was a genuine person and always spoke his mind. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His nieces and nephews were very special to him along with their children.
​
He was predeceased by his father, Norman L. Richardson Sr.; his mother, Elizabeth Greene; brothers-in-law, Anson Perkins Sr. and Bobby Jennings; and a special nephew, David Jacobs.
​
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Judy Richardson; stepfather, James Greene; a sister, Harriet Perkins; a brother, Norman L. Richardson Jr. and his wife, Corrine, all of Clinton; brothers-in-law, Stephen Jacobs and his wife, Kathy, of Eatontown, N.J., and Merton Jacobs and his wife, Sue, of Winthrop; sisters-in-law, Nancy Wilson of Conway, Ark., and Beverly Emerson and her husband, Raymond, of St. George; stepbrothers, Ronnie Greene and his wife, Helen, of Zephyrhills, Fla., and Dennis Greene and his wife, Jackie, of Sidney; stepsister, Sandra Stokes and her husband, Dennis, of Kansas; a special niece, Dr. Judy Welch of Saco who facilitated his treatment and care at Dana-Farber; special friends, Ed and Judy Toulouse of Plymouth, Doug and Pam Tatham of Clinton, Brenda and Jerry Phair of Canaan, Harry and Sheila Kelley of Skowhegan, Linda and Nelson Bowden of Canaan, Ed and Rosalie Chase of Clinton, and Shawn Bouchard of Clinton; and his special companion, his dog, Dakota; several aunts, uncles, special nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 26, at Fairview Cemetery in Canaan with Pastor Bob Philbrick officiating.
